Eng. Mohammed Mustafa Ibrahim Al-Meleegy Gains the Award of the Best Master’s Thesis at the University Level in the Area of Basic Engineering Science

Prof. Ahmed Nasr, Dean of Faculty of Engineering, vice deans, and Production Engineering and Mechanical Design Department provide their sincere congratulations to Eng. Mohammed Mustafa Ibrahim Al-Meleegy, Assistant Lecturer at Production Engineering and Mechanical Design Department on gaining the award of the best Master’s Thesis at the level of the university in the area of Basic Engineering Science titled, “Effect of Friction Stir Welding Parameters on the Mechanical Properties of Rice Straw Plastic Wood Composites”. He also thanks members of the supervision committee of the thesis including Prof. Ahmed Al-Qassass, and Dr. Ammar Al-Shaikh.
Faculty Dean declared that the thesis is considered a pioneering model in applied scientific research, adding that it addresses developing an innovative welding technique for composite materials made from plastic and agricultural waste, contributing to the promotion of sustainable industry concepts and environmental innovation.
Prof. Ahmed Nasr clarified that the significance of the thesis lies in its support for several Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), including:
•    Goal 9: Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure, by developing a welding technique compatible with unconventional materials.
•    Goal 12: Responsible Consumption and Production, through recycling waste and transforming it into valuable products.
•    Goal 13: Climate Action, by reducing dependence on materials and processes with high carbon footprints.
•    Goal 15: Life on Land, by helping reduce waste that harms terrestrial ecosystems.
Moreover, the outcomes of this thesis align with Egypt’s Vision 2030, particularly in the pivots of sustainable environment and industry, by offering smart technological solutions that enhance resource efficiency and support the shift toward a circular economy.
It is worth noting that the researcher has published three scientific papers from this thesis, two of them were published in highly-ranked scientific journals (top 10 % worldwide), which reflects quality of the scientific content of the thesis and power of the results. The third paper was published in the scientific journal of Faculty of Engineering at Tanta University to support local applied research.
