Undergraduate Study System

Faculty Study System:

Currently, Faculty of Engineering at Tanta University combines the Credit Hour System, in accordance with the new 2022 bylaw, with a number of students who are still studying under the old bylaw based on the two-semester system.

First: Credit Hour System:

Faculty of Engineering at Tanta University applies the Credit Hour (CH) System for undergraduate studies in accordance with the provisions of the Internal Bylaw under the 2022 Credit Hour System.

This system aims to provide students with greater flexibility in selecting and registering for courses according to the academic plan of their program, while taking into consideration their academic level and cumulative GPA, under supervision of an academic advisor.

Academic Levels:

The study program starts from the Freshman level and continues through Level Four (Senior-2).

Academic Year:

  • First Semester (Fall): A 15-week period of instruction, followed by examinations.
  • Second Semester (Spring): A 15-week period of instruction, followed by examinations.
  • Summer Semester: An optional semester lasting 7 weeks of instruction, followed by examinations..

The standard duration of study, according to the academic plans, is ten main semesters.

A high-achieving student may graduate within four academic years, provided that all graduation requirements have been fulfilled. The maximum period of study is twenty main semesters.

Second: Language of Instruction:

English is the official language of instruction at the faculty. It is also used in textbooks, exercises, and official course examinations.

The Faculty Council may approve the teaching of certain courses in a language other than English, in accordance with the applicable rules and procedures.

Third: Graduation Requirements:

To be awarded the Bachelor of Engineering degree from Faculty of Engineering, Tanta University, the student must fulfill the following requirements:

  1. Successfully complete a minimum of 160 credit hours in accordance with the approved study plan of the relevant academic program, with a cumulative Grade Point Average (GPA) of not less than 2.00 out of 4.00.
  2. Successfully complete all courses and academic requirements prescribed for graduation.
  3. Successfully complete the required field training.
  4. Successfully complete the Graduation Project.

Field Training:

The student is required to undertake field training on two separate occasions during the period of study. Each training period shall be for a minimum duration of three weeks, equivalent to approximately 80 training hours.
The field training shall be undertaken at an approved company, organization, or institution whose activities are relevant to the field of specialization.

The graduation requirements for each program comprise 160 credit hours, in accordance with the approved study plan.

Artificial Intelligence Engineering

The courses and distribution of credit hours vary among the programs according to the nature of each specialization and its respective approved study plan.

Fifth: Course Registration and Credit Hours:

Students register for their courses at the beginning of each academic semester in accordance with the study plan and with the assistance of the academic advisor.

  • The number of registered credit hours depends on the student’s cumulative GPA.
  • Registration is carried out according to the student’s academic level and the rules and regulations established by the faculty.
  • Registration is not considered final until it is approved by the academic advisor.
  • Students may register for courses during the summer semester, subject to availability and applicable regulations.

Sixth: Advantages of the Credit Hour System:

  • Flexibility in registering for courses.
  • Offering a summer semester for students who wish to complete some courses.
  • Monitoring the academic performance of the students through the Cumulative Grade Point Average (GPA).
  • Providing an academic advisor to monitor and guide the student’s study plan.
  • Offering general and specialized engineering programs with modern orientations.
  • Combining theoretical study with practical application and field training.
  • Preparing students for labor market requirements through specialized courses, projects, and training.
